One of the organisations that the ICZ Endowment Fund decided to offer its support to this year is the charity RWTTC – Running With Those That Can’t. The “Běháme s těmi, kteří sami nemohou” project, the Czech equivalent of Running With Those That Can’t, was set up by students at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine at Charles’ University back in 2009. The aim of the organisation is not simply to raise awareness of people with special needs, but primarily to help with their integration in everyday life. And in order to achieve their objectives, the founders of the association opted for running events. Participants take to the race tracks with special wheelchairs in which their co-racers are children who unfortunately cannot run themselves.
The ICZ Endowment Fund decided to buy one of these wheelchairs for the RWTTC association, providing the sum of CZK 40,000 towards its purchase. The new wheelchairs were officially presented to selected families within the grounds of Karolinum in Prague on Saturday 7 September 2019. The parents and children also got to know the team of runners at the handover. After that, there was nothing to stop them moving to the starting line of the 10 K Birell Grand Prix 2019.
Our employee Gelsomina Kopecká presented the special wheelchair on behalf of ICZ to the family of 3-year-old Matěj, before taking part in the race him with. “I really like this type of event. Matěj and I managed everything and we really enjoyed the race. Running through Prague at night is nice in itself and the fans generated a great atmosphere. It was a full dose of emotion and a wonderful experience. I will be happy to do it all again,” said ICZ’s representative enthusiastically in appraising the event.
